An interpretation of “solitude” within the not-so-still life… and interpersonal relationships, viewed through a critical, artistic lens where plants and inanimate objects converse on canvas or cardboard… or perhaps they do not...
The feeling of loneliness, as defined by Peplau and Perlman (1979), is the perceived gap between what an individual expects from interpersonal relationships and what they actually experience. Along the same lines, psychologist Guy Winch emphasizes the subjectivity of loneliness—this feeling depends entirely on whether one feels emotionally or socially disconnected from those around them, regardless of being surrounded by people, friends, or family.
The feeling of loneliness is, therefore, a product of an individual’s internal beliefs and the subjective evaluations they make regarding their own emotional and social circumstances.
Loneliness affects us all at some point in our lives; phrases such as “I am alone” or “I have no one” are all too common.
At times, the person uttering these words may have family, friends, or even a vast following on social media, yet they fail to feel in true alignment with anyone. What they are actually conveying is a profound sense of being alone.
It is a sensation difficult to articulate—hence this personal interpretation through these not-so-still lifes, evoking a complex blend of inadequacy, lack, and, above all, emptiness.
