Fran De Miguel is a contemporary Spanish painter born in Tenerife, Canary Islands. He belongs to the generation of Canarian artists trained after the consolidation of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of La Laguna, where he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts between 1985 and 1990.

Artistic Career

For more than three decades, Fran De Miguel has developed an independent artistic career centered on painting. His work has been presented in both solo and group exhibitions in Spain and internationally, with exhibitions in:

* Spain * Egypt * The Netherlands * Mexico * Japan

This international presence has established him as one of the contemporary artists representing Tenerife’s artistic scene abroad.

Artistic Practice

One of the defining features of Fran De Miguel’s work is his commitment to experimentation with materials. Rather than relying solely on commercial products, he develops his own pigments and paint formulations, allowing him to achieve distinctive textures, luminosity, and chromatic depth.

His paintings are recognized for:

* Rich and vibrant colour harmonies * Expressive surfaces with layered textures * Large-format compositions * A balance between abstraction and emotional expression * Careful exploration of light and matter

His paintings invite viewers to engage with colour as both a physical material and an emotional language.

Notable Exhibition

In 2023, Fran De Miguel presented a major exhibition at the Antiguo Convento de Santo Domingo in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, featuring large-scale works that showcased his mature artistic language. The exhibition received positive attention from local critics, including art critic Joaquín Castro, who highlighted the originality of his pictorial research and his contribution to contemporary Canarian art.

Position within Canarian Contemporary Art

Fran De Miguel is regarded as part of the generation of painters who have contributed to expanding contemporary painting in the Canary Islands through technical experimentation and a highly personal visual language. His work continues the strong tradition of Canarian painting while pursuing an individual exploration of colour, materiality, and expressive abstraction.
